Case study · BookIt Sports

The games never stop. So we built the part that keeps score.

Live sports newsroom · Eight leagues, one desk

BookIt Sports is a live sports newsroom run by people who love the games and the arguing that comes with them. Box scores, props, survivor pools, Beat the Streak, the chatter in between. When we came in, the writing lived in one place, the community in another, and somebody graded the fan picks by hand against results read off a screen. Nothing shipped without a developer in the loop.

So we built the grading engine, and it's the part we're proudest of. Quietly, on its own clock, it settles thousands of fan picks against the live box scores and keeps going as the games do. If an official result gets corrected later, it walks back the whole week and re-grades it, no one chasing the change by hand. There's still a manual override for the rare call a human wants to make, but most nights the team never opens it.

Around that we gave them a real desk. A story editor for the writing. A newsletter studio where an editor drags blocks into place, previews, schedules, and sends. Live chat that runs alongside each game. The picks, the pools, the streak game all flow through one place to play.

It spans eight leagues, from the NFL to the PGA. The BookIt team writes the stories, sends the email, hosts the chat, and calls the games. The settling happens in the background now, while they get on with the part they love.
